Weekend Top Ten | London for kids

May Half-Term, 2013

Exams are over, it’s time for a bit of fun over half-term! There are countless workshops and activities in museums, crazy jelly lakes and food to suit every taste. Beanotown arrives on the Southbank next week with a beach and the fantastic Appearing Rooms water fountains that kids (and adults) cannot resist running into and getting trapped. Enjoy the weekend and break next week.

Varmints at Lilian Baylis Theatre
We snuck in to see Bristol’s Travelling Light Theatre production of Varmints this morning along with a theatre-full of school kids.
The production was beautifully performed and presented, great sets, costumes and dance. The setting and music was dark at times so the recommended age of eight + is appropriate, and an explanation of the story beforehand may be a good idea if not familiar with the book. The prediction of what greed and industrialisation can do to our fragile little world is creatively and vividly explored on stage. The kids were transfixed, and likely to be discussing environmental issues back in the classroom this afternoon.
Imagine a dance version of Baraka, with WALL-E (yes, Disney) reinvented as a little critter by Tim Burton - you’ll know what we mean when you see it.
If you miss it this weekend, it will be on in Stratford in a few weeks. Well worth booking. http://www.urbanexplorer.com/newsletters/sat-18th-sun-19th-may-2013/ High-res

Covent Garden Flower Market

A few of the lovely things we spotted while visiting the market.

In addition to stunning flowers and plants, there is every imaginable vase, container or planter one could possibly need. Also, crafting supplies, tissue paper, cello wraps and a rainbow of ribbons - a terrific one stop shop for stocking up in bulk.

Weekend Top Ten | London for kids

May 3rd - 6th, 2013

May Bank Holiday is upon us and with a terrific weather forecast. It is also the start of the fete / festival season so make sure you’re out and about having a great time in the sun. We’ll be reporting live from Land of Kids on Monday, follow us on Twitter for the scoop on the day. Have a fantastic long weekend break!

Pick Me Up at Somerset House

These were a few of our favourite things from Pick Me Up at Somerset House last weekend.

Still going strong with more fun and workshops this coming weekend.

If the weather continues, kiddies were very much enjoying the fountains to cool off, pack a towel!

Weekend Top Ten | London for kids

April 20th - 21st, 2013

Well, finally - it feels like spring in in the air, albeit a touch nippy still, but at least the runners will be comfortable at the London Marathon this Sunday. We also have Axel Scheffler inspiration overload, St.George’s Day celebrations and bird themed productions on stage. Enjoy the sunshine, and hope to see you at Pick Me Up at Somerset House.
